When salmon run at Discovery Island to D'Arcy Island

Chinook use this corridor both as winter residents on the local banks and as summer migrants moving through toward the Fraser. Coho pass later in the season. The islands and reefs concentrate bait, so the fishing tends to be tied to structure and tide rather than spread evenly across the area.

Salmon limits for Area 19 (as of September 16, 2026)

chinook 2 per day in 19-1, 19-3 and 19-4, closed in 19-2, 2 per day in 19-5 to 19-11, non retention in 19-12; chum 2 per day; coho 2 per day; pink 4 per day; sockeye non retention.

Four salmon closure areas are in effect today, including Christmas Point, Esquimalt Harbour and Ogden Point and others. A closure overrides the area-wide limit where they overlap.

See the full Area 19 regulations for the complete limits tables and subarea boundaries. Openings change in-season - always confirm on DFO before fishing.
