Chinook and coho move along the outer coast and into the sound in summer and autumn. The inlets draw returns to local systems later in the season. Halibut are taken on the offshore banks. Prawns are taken in the sheltered inlets, subject to seasonal openings and area closures.

Seven salmon closure areas are in effect today, including Ahousaht/Miller Channel, Browning Passage. and Entrance to the Warn Bay and others. A closure overrides the area-wide limit where they overlap.
