📊 Historical Data

Crescent Beach fishing & marine conditions

Crescent Beach sits on Boundary Bay in the south-eastern corner of the Strait of Georgia, backed by extensive tidal flats. It is shallow water over a wide area, with a very large intertidal zone that changes the shoreline dramatically between high and low water.

What runs here, and when

Boundary Bay is best known for crab rather than salmon, and crabbing is popular here subject to seasonal openings and area closures. Salmon move through the wider approaches to the Fraser in season, with sockeye in summer on cycle years, pinks in odd-numbered years, and chum in the late season. The bay itself is shallow, warm and productive for crab rather than a salmon destination in its own right.

Local hazards

The defining hazard is how shallow and how extensive the flats are: at low water the sea retreats a long way, and boats that ground out on an ebb can be stranded for hours. Wind over shallow water builds a short, steep chop quickly. Check shellfish contamination closures before harvesting anywhere in this area.

Tides, current and sea state

Tidal range dominates everything here. The very large intertidal area means navigable water at high tide can be dry ground a few hours later, and route planning has to account for the state of the tide rather than just the destination. Water warms markedly over the flats on a summer flood.

Live data on this page

Conditions above are for 49.051°N, 122.885°W. Wind, wave and pressure data come from Open-Meteo and refresh every three hours; tide predictions come from the Canadian Hydrographic Service station 07579. The fishing score combines wind, wave height, barometric trend, moon phase, tide movement and time of day.

Marine forecast & warnings

Crescent Beach lies in Environment and Climate Change Canada's Strait of Georgia marine forecast zone.

No marine warnings are in effect for this zone.

ECCC reissues the forecast through the day and can post a warning at any hour, so the Marine Forecast panel above carries the current wind, visibility and multi-day outlook word for word. It describes the open water of the zone, not a particular bay inside it, and is no substitute for the VHF or weatheradio broadcast.

Regulations

Crescent Beach lies in DFO Pacific Area 29. Openings, closures and limits change in-season and differ between subareas, so check the DFO Area 29 recreational fishing page before you go. Nothing on this page is a substitute for the current regulations, official charts, or the marine forecast.

As of November 1, 2026, five closure areas are in effect in DFO Pacific Area 29, among them Tidal portion of the Fraser River (in Area 29), Tidal Portion of Fraser River (Area 29) and Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal and Delta Port. Salmon limits for the area: in 29-1 to 29-5 and 29-8, chinook 2 per day, pink 4 per day, sockeye non retention; in 29-6, 29-7 and 29-9 to 29-17, all salmon closed; in 29-1 to 29-14 and 29-17, chum 4 per day; in 29-15 and 29-16, all salmon closed; in 29-1 to 29-10 and 29-12, coho 2 per day; in 29-11, 29-13, 29-14 and 29-17, coho 2 per day.
